  • Obama Pushes to Keep Estate Tax
    President-elect Obama and congressional leaders plan to prevent the repeal of the estate tax scheduled to occur in 2010.  Obama will detail his estate-tax preservation plan next month and propose to lock in the estate tax permanently at the 2009 rate and exemption levels.  
  • Charitable Gift Annuity Rates Decrease on February 1, 2009
    The American Charitable Gift Association recently announced a decrease in annual payout rates effective February 1, 2009.  If you have been considering creating a gift annuity, now is the time to take action.  You will receive a higher lifetime income provided your gift is completed by January 31, 2009. 
  • Pension Protection Act Extended:  There’s Still Time to Make a Tax-Free Gift from Your IRA
    The opportunity to make a tax-free gift from your IRA is available through December 31, 2009.  Individuals age 70½ or older are permitted transfers up to $100,000 per year directly from their IRA to charity without having to report such amounts as income, regardless of whether minimum distributions are required.
