ISCHOOL Online Discussion Group

The College of Information Studies, Maryland’s iSchool provides an online discussion group for students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The purpose of the ISCHOOL discussion group is to provide a way for all of us to interact online and exchange information and ideas. Topics can include informal articles, questions and requests for information, notes about special events, announcements about job opportunities, for-sale advertisements, and on-going discussions about library and information science issues.

The name of the College’s discussion group is ISCHOOLDISCUSSION. Administrative functions for ISCHOOLDISCUSSION are handled by the computer-based messaging system, LISTSERV. This is a service provided by OIT.

LISTSERV uses email as the vehicle for delivering messages to and from subscribers of a LISTSERV list.

To subscribe to ISCHOOLDISCUSSION, send an email message to:
LISTSERV@LISTSERV.UMD.EDU
and include as the first line in the message:
SUBSCRIBE ISCHOOLDISCUSSION <your name>
When you are sending a message to LISTSERV to subscribe, the subject line of your email message should be left blank.

To unsubscribe, send a message to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.UMD.EDU with the words UNSUBSCRIBE ISCHOOLDISCUSSION and nothing else as the first line in your message. After you subscribe, you will receive an acceptance message from LISTSERV and any and all messages sent to ISCHOOLDISCUSSION will be also sent to you. You must be a member of the list to send a message. To contribute a message to ISCHOOLDISCUSSION, send an email message to: ISCHOOLDISCUSSION@LISTSERV.UMD.EDU

Remember that all messages you send to ISCHOOLDISCUSSION will be sent out to all subscribers. ISCHOOLDISCUSSION is an informal discussion group. Official messages from the College's administration to students, faculty, and staff are sent through the ISCHOOLANNOUNCEMENTS online reflector, to which you do not have to subscribe. (Registered students are automatically placed on this list, using your UM email address.) Official College and University policies, procedures, schedules, and dates are available online through Testudo.
