Dean’s Student Advisory Council (DSAC)

Meet the INFO Dean’s Undergraduate Student Advisory Council (DSAC). Comprising undergraduate students from three different undergraduate majors offered by our INFO college across two different campus locations (College Park and Shady Grove), DSAC serves as the voice and collective vision of our undergraduate student body. The INFO DSAC members have different experiences and passions, and together, they work to make our academic community better.

The INFO DSAC team:

  • Serves as a bridge between undergraduate students and the college administration, fostering open communication and collaboration on strategic initiatives;
  • Collects feedback from its members and the broader student body, advocates for the interests and concerns of undergraduate students, providing valuable insights to the college’s decision-making processes;
  • Contributes ideas for innovative changes within the college, aiming to enhance the overall quality of education and student life.
  • Fosters a sense of community among undergraduate students within the college, organizing events and initiatives that enhance the overall student experience.
  • Empowers INFO undergraduate students by providing them with opportunities for collaboration and engagement in shaping the direction of their academic community.
  • Promotes inclusivity and diversity within the college, working towards creating an environment where all students feel heard, valued, and represented.

Malaika Asif

Malaika Asif

Malaika Asif is a junior majoring in Information Science at the University of Maryland. As a first-generation college student, she is passionate about exploring how technology, cybersecurity, and data-driven solutions can address community needs and create inclusive opportunities. She has served as president of the South Asian Club and worked in both the Dean’s Office and the Office of Student Life, where she gained experience supporting students and coordinating events. Malaika looks forward to serving on the Dean’s Student Advisory Council to advocate for student voices and help shape a forward-looking academic environment.
Layan Atiya

Layan Atiya

Layan Atiya is a senior majoring in Information Science with a minor in Business Analytics. She has completed internships in business analysis and GIS data systems, gaining experience in database design, clustering and network analysis, and dashboard development. As a RESET Scholar and student leader in UMD’s Culture Club, she combines technical expertise with community engagement to advance equity and inclusion in technology. Layan is passionate about leveraging both business and innovation to design efficient data-driven solutions.
Monodeep Chahal

Monodeep Chahal

Monodeep Chahal is an Information Science major at the University of Maryland, minoring in Information Risk Management, Ethics, and Privacy. He is passionate about data analysis and programming, with a strong interest in using technology to solve real-world problems.
Lamyea Diyea

Lamyea Diyea

Lamyea Diyea is an Information Science major at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is passionate about technology and eager to develop her skills in UX/UI design, with the goal of improving people’s lives and creating more inclusive communities. Through the Dean’s Student Advisory Council (DSAC), she contributes her voice to enhancing the student experience and fostering collaboration across the university community 
Jasmine Emeruwa

Jasmine Emeruwa

Jasmine Emeruwa is a senior majoring in Information Science and double minoring in General Business and Information Risk Management, Ethics, & Privacy. She is also pursuing her Masters in Information Management as part of a Plus 1 program with the Information College. Additionally, she works at the Information College as an Undergraduate Ambassador for all three INFO majors. She seeks to use her experiences as an ambassador and a part of DSAC to make life at the Information College more welcoming, exciting, and innovative for all of its students.
Selam Fesseha

Selam Fesseha

Selam Fesseha is an Information Science major with a minor in General Business. She is passionate about exploring the intersection of human behavior and technology and enjoys finding innovative, people-centered solutions. Selam is committed to learning how technology can meaningfully improve everyday experiences. She also serves as an Office Assistant for Resident Life and a Community Assistant at South Campus Commons, where she supports residents and helps build a welcoming, engaged community.
Harshitha Jeyakumar

Harshitha Jeyakumar

Harshitha Jeyakumar is a sophomore pursuing a degree in Information Science. She is passionate about exploring the intersections between technology and various industries, particularly the application of data science techniques in healthcare and business, as well as concepts in machine learning and information security. Harshitha is eager to learn and grow throughout her academic journey, collaborating with peers and continuously developing new skills.  
Jason Laucel

Jason Laucel

My name is Jason Laucel and I am a senior at the University of Maryland College-Park majoring in Information Science as my Bachelor’s and a minor in Information Risk Management, Ethics, and Privacy Minor. I am currently doing a Machine learning internship that goes through AI model prototypes in various governmental sectors. My interest in AI development and user experience drive forward the idea of enhancement of personal lives through technology development
Rachel Lee

Rachel Lee

Rachel Lee is an Information Science major interested in applying data science and related skills to the biopharma and healthcare industry, especially in the areas that connect to its business and operational side. She is excited to make a positive impact while also supporting her peers. Through the DSAC, Rachel hopes to help create a welcoming, supportive community and represent the college’s vision.

Linaly Miyamoto

Linaly (Linh) Miyamoto is a senior studying Information Science with a minor in Global Terrorism Studies. She is particularly interested in applying data science to the public health sector, using data-driven insights to inform policy and strengthen communities. As a member of the Dean’s Student Advisory Council, she hopes to help shape a more inclusive, student-centered academic environment.

Favour Modozie is a sophomore at the University of Maryland, majoring in Information Science with a specialization in DevOps Engineering. She is passionate about using technology to solve complex problems and is committed to delivering high-quality work. Through DSAC, she hopes to deepen her technical knowledge, connect with peers and professionals, and contribute meaningfully to projects that drive innovation and impact within the tech community at UMD.

Kelechi Ogbonna is a Technology and Information Design major specializing in user experience and accessibility. Passionate about increasing the representation of minority women in tech, Kelechi aims to transform the healthcare landscape through innovative UX solutions. Driven by a commitment to social good, Kelechi is dedicated to crafting user experiences that are both intuitive and inclusive.

Stacy Park

Stacy Park is a senior majoring in Information Science. This past summer, she interned at T. Rowe Price, where she worked with two AI tools, strengthening her interest in innovative, human-centered technology solutions. She is passionate about exploring how technology can improve everyday experiences and connect people in meaningful ways.
Nazanin Rafie

Nazanin Rafie

Nazanin Rafie is a senior majoring in Information Science. Nazanin joined DSAC because she wants to advocate for student needs, share ideas for college-wide improvements, and help make the INFO community more inclusive. She is passionate about data analysis and enjoys finding innovative ways to improve the student experience. As a mom of two, Nazanin brings leadership, time management, and a strong sense of responsibility to this role, and she is excited to support and empower her fellow students both academically and personally.
Ariel Schwartz

Ariel Schwartz

Ariel Schwartz is a junior at the University of Maryland, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Information and Technology Design with a minor in Technology Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation. She is a certified UX designer and currently serves as an E-commerce Coordinator at Venture Trailers, where she leverages user-centered design principles and digital strategies to enhance online platforms. Ariel is committed to integrating up to date technology practices into her work, with a focus on innovation, accessibility, and business growth. She aspires to apply her knowledge in UX to launch impactful digital products and ventures.
Saisidharth Seyyadri

Saisidharth Seyyadri

Saisidharth Seyyadri is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Information Science and is actively engaged in research and development projects within the FIRE program. He is passionate about exploring software engineering, artificial intelligence, and data science, leveraging his technical skills to drive innovation and create a meaningful impact in the digital landscape.
