Marjee Chmiel works at the intersection of media and public understanding of science. Her passion is in understanding how cultures can leverage media to adopt scientific habits of mind as well as engage affectively with scientific phenomenon. She has developed award winning-media at Public Broadcasting Services, National Geographic, and the Smithsonian Institution. As a Fulbright Specialist, she worked with the Southeast Asian Ministries of Education on changing science curriculum in Indonesia. Her doctoral work explored types of scientific explanations employed in popular user-generated videos.  She is the director of evaluation for the educational media group at Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Marjee currently teaches INST 701: Introduction to Research Methods at the University of Maryland College of Information Studies.
