Welcome From the Dean

Welcome to the University of Maryland College of Information (INFO)

If you’re visiting this page, you’re probably trying to figure out whether INFO is the right place for you, whether as a student, a collaborator, a future colleague, or a supporter of what we do. I hope what follows helps answer that question.

INFO is a community of more than 2,800 students from 61 countries, brought together by a shared conviction: that information and technology can change people’s lives for the better. That belief shapes everything here—how we teach, how we research, and how we engage with the world beyond our walls.

If you’re considering joining us as a student, you’ll find a curriculum that is technically rigorous and deeply human-centered. Our graduates go on to careers in UX design, data science, cybersecurity, archiving, librarianship, and beyond. Not just because they’ve mastered the tools of the field, but because they understand the people those tools are meant to serve.

If you’re a potential partner or employer, I’d invite you to get to know our students and faculty. There are many ways to engage—through our iConsultancy program, as an adjunct lecturer, or by supporting student scholarships. Our graduates are ready to contribute and lead, and we’re always looking to deepen connections with organizations doing meaningful work.

And if you’re considering joining our faculty or staff, know that this is a place where administrative excellence and academic discovery are equally valued, and where every voice shapes our culture.

Whatever brings you here, I’m glad you found us. Take a look around, explore our latest breakthroughs in the INFO Insider magazine, and don’t hesitate to reach out.

Best,
